How To Generate AI Videos That Don’t Suck

AI video, for the most part, still isn’t usable for most businesses because the output sort of sucks.

If more of us were achieving results like the video above, I’m sure we’d be adding more of this to our marketing stack.

Fortunately, we’ve been able to replicate more of these outputs for our clients using JSON prompting.

JSON prompting often works better than natural language because it provides structured and unambiguous instructions to AI models.

Here’s how to prompt Veo3 using a JSON format:

  1. If you haven’t signed up for the discounted version of Google Ultra, the home of Veo3 look at our previous posts on how to do this here

  2. Once you’ve gotten into Veo, copy and paste this JSON prompt into a Google doc:

{"description": "Cinematic summary of the scene - what happens visually",

"style": "Visual mood or aesthetic (e.g. cinematic, magical realism)",

"camera": "Camera movement or framing (e.g. dolly-in, fixed wide shot)",

"lens": "Lens or framing type (optional)",

"lighting": "How the scene is lit (e.g. neon, sunset, natural glow)",

"environment": "Scene location or space (optional)",

"audio": "Music or sound design if specified (optional)",

"elements": ["List of objects, subjects, or visual items that must appear"]

"motion": "How objects move or transform in the scene",

"ending": "What the final visual moment or shot looks like",

"text": "Usually 'none' unless on-screen text is mentioned",

    "keywords": ["Descriptive tags that reinforce theme, tone, or subject"]}

  3. Go through and edit each line for the outcome you are after
    e.g
"description": "A scientist in a crisp white lab coat carefully uses a pipette, transferring liquid with steady precision in a modern laboratory."

  4. Upload this directly into Veo3

From here, you’ll get a video that is far closer to what you want compared to the generic natural language prompting that people use for these tools today.

Like any business advice, make sure you’ve got an actual use case for this before spending on these tools.

Investors pay more for certainty.

That’s why Air NZ trades at far lower multiples than Meridian Energy.

The lesson for business growth is simple: aim for the same destination with less turbulence.

Automation isn’t just about cutting costs — it smooths the path.

I’ve bought a few small businesses. The seller gives you three years of financials, the smooth growers always look better than the bumpy ones.

Reduce the swings, rein in the extremes.

The steadier the results, the more valuable the business.
